Spoiler scope: Contains spoilers for Season 1. No events from later anime seasons or unadapted source material are included.
Ray White enters Arnold Academy as its first commoner student, hoping for the ordinary friendships his childhood never allowed. Behind his polite manner is the Iceblade Sorcerer, a war veteran whose immense power comes with a dangerous loss of control.
Ray’s identity and the scars of war
Noble students question Ray’s place at the academy, but Amelia Rose, Elisa Griffith and his roommate Evi become his friends. His teacher Helena Grady is exposed as a member of Eugenics, an organization that targets sorcerers for its experiments. Ray releases his sealed power to protect the group.
He was raised and trained by Lydia Ainsworth, the previous Iceblade Sorcerer. During the Far East War, an Overheat caused his magic to spiral out of control and left Lydia using a wheelchair. The Chronos Lock limits his power to prevent another catastrophe. His friends accept him after learning the truth.
Amelia’s rivalry and the tournament
Amelia struggles under her noble family’s expectations and feels inferior to her childhood friend Ariane Algren. Ray trains her for the Magicks Chevalier tournament and encourages her to rely on her friends rather than face that pressure alone.
During their match, Amelia develops her own spell, Butterfly Effect, wins and reconciles with Ariane. Meanwhile, Ray stops assassins targeting noble students at the tournament. The academy’s competitions have become entangled with threats beyond its grounds.
The Season 1 ending: saving Rebecca
Rebecca Bradley’s sudden engagement to Evan Bernstein conceals a scheme involving Eugenics and her dangerous inherited eye powers. Her sister Maria seeks help, and the cultural festival turns into a rescue operation as monsters attack the academy.
With aid from his mentors and the Fabrication Sorcerer Lieselotte, Ray defeats the soul-devouring Paratrogo using Pandora, his red-ice power. He then uses Chronos Lock to halt Rebecca’s Overheat and save her. Afterward, his friends accompany him to a fallen comrade’s grave, while Ariane invites him to the Magicks War.
The quick reminder
- Ray is the current Iceblade Sorcerer; Lydia is his mentor.
- Chronos Lock restrains the Overheat that makes his power dangerous.
