3 min read · Published

Spoiler scope: Contains spoilers for Seasons 1–2, through Season 2 episode 12 (overall episode 24). No Season 3 or unadapted manga events are included.

Mash Burnedead lives in a society where magic determines a person's worth, but he cannot use it. He enters Easton Magic Academy to become a Divine Visionary and protect his life with his adoptive father, Regro. His extraordinary strength gets him through magical challenges, while Finn, Lance, Dot and Lemon become his closest friends.

Mash's secret becomes public

After the defeat of Magia Lupus and the confrontation with Cell War, Mash's lack of magic can no longer remain a private secret. The Bureau of Magic summons him before the Divine Visionaries, where his very existence is treated as grounds for punishment.

Headmaster Wahlberg and Rayne Ames argue for him. Mash receives a chance to prove himself through the Divine Visionary selection process, although Orter Madl remains opposed to making an exception. Returning to ordinary school life now means living with an official threat hanging over him.

The Divine Visionary Candidate Exam

The selection tests make Mash's friendships as important as his strength. Finn refuses to abandon him when confronted by Carpaccio Luo-yang, whose ability allows him to shift damage away from himself. Mash intervenes and overwhelms Carpaccio, protecting Finn.

His next major opponent is Margarette Macaron, a powerful sound-magic user. Macaron's speed and techniques force Mash to do more than simply hit harder. He adapts during the fight and wins their one-on-one match. The victory shows that he can challenge exceptional magic users even without a spell of his own.

Innocent Zero attacks Easton

The exam is interrupted when Innocent Zero arrives and stops time. He identifies Mash as his son and wants to take him away. Wahlberg stands against him, while the other defenders protect the students from the invading monsters.

Mash battles Cell War again and defeats him. Above the school, Wahlberg confronts a resurrected Adam Jobs, the former master of both Wahlberg and Innocent Zero, before facing Zero himself. Wahlberg's attempt to stop him leaves the headmaster badly injured. Mash reaches him and prevents his fall from becoming fatal.

Mash saves the school, but his goal remains

Innocent Zero withdraws, leaving a gigantic creature assembled from dead monsters. With magic failing against it, Mash becomes the school's last line of defense. Students who feared or rejected him begin cheering him on, and his physical strength defeats the creature.

The rescue does not instantly erase the prejudice outside Easton. When people turn against Mash, his friends stand beside him. He still needs to continue his studies and selection journey, and even written exams are a serious obstacle for him. The season ends with that familiar support around him: Mash has saved the school, but he has not yet become a Divine Visionary.

The quick reminder

  • Mash's lack of magic is exposed, and his chance to remain depends on proving himself.
  • Innocent Zero identifies Mash as his son; Wahlberg survives the attack with Mash's help.
  • Mash defeats the giant and wins support, but is not yet a Divine Visionary.
